kenneth Gregston Sculpture in Stone Title Graphic

As a geologist and an artist, Kenneth Gregston's love of science and art come together to become one in stone. Gregston divides his time between stone sculpting at his home in Central New Mexico, and rock and mineral hunting in Wyoming. He sculpts in alabaster, marble, jade, and onyx, finding the qualities of each stone lend their unique attributes to his work. Kenneth especially enjoys sculpting the complexity and beauty of the classic female form.

Direct stone carving has become Gregston's medium of artistic expression. He loves the opportunities presented in the greater challenges and deeper creative expression each type of stone provides. The viewer can see the humanistic and naturalistic features in the stone, with the work's rough and smooth surfaces.

As a Geologist in the field or a stone quarry, Kenneth sees geological history. As a sculptor, his energy is derived directly from the ancient, rugged physicality of the stone as it evolves into the finished work.
